The Sun, also known as Surya or Aditya, is considered the king of all planets and the primary source of life. It completes one full cycle through the zodiac in 12 months, staying in each zodiac sign for about one month. The Sun represents father, soul, power, intelligence, success, knowledge, fortune, willpower, fame, wealth, dignity, and authority. It reflects a person’s ability to face daily life challenges and act as a mature, responsible individual.

Ketu is considered a shadow or abstract planet. It is known as the Moksha Karaka, meaning it helps in liberation from the cycle of life and death. It provides the highest form of spiritual knowledge, which is one of the greatest blessings for human existence. Ketu is mystical in nature. It dissolves materialism into spirituality and enhances inner awareness and intuition. It represents subconscious desires and also relates strongly to the past. Ketu behaves similarly to Mars in its effects and nature.

Venus is considered a feminine and graceful planet, symbolizing beauty, harmony, and comfort. It is also known as the “Evening Star.” Venus takes about 225 days to complete one revolution around the Sun and never moves more than 47 degrees away from it. Venus represents love, beauty, marriage, romance, passion, wealth, luxury, music, dance, pleasure, and emotional harmony. It governs relationships, friendships, and partnerships, including business collaborations.

Saturn is one of the most significant planets in astrology. It takes about 29.5 years to complete one revolution around the Sun, staying in each zodiac sign for approximately 2.5 years. Due to its slow movement and strong influence, Saturn affects both individual lives and larger societal or national events. In mythology, Saturn is considered the son of the Sun (Surya) and Chhaya (shadow). However, there is an eternal conflict between father and son. This is believed to be due to past mythological events that created natural hostility between them.

Rahu is a shadow planet (lunar node) formed at the intersection of the Sun’s path around Earth and the Moon’s orbit around Earth. It completes one full zodiac cycle in about 18 years, moving in a retrograde (reverse) motion. According to mythology, Rahu is known for amplifying a person’s power and can even turn enemies into friends. It is often associated with sudden success, unexpected gains, and rapid growth because it acts as a catalyst and accelerator. Rahu does not rule any zodiac sign as it is not a physical planet. Its behavior is similar to Saturn.

Jupiter is a slow-moving planet, and its sign changes often bring significant shifts in life on Earth. Known as “Brihaspati” or “Devguru” (teacher of the gods), Jupiter is naturally a benefic planet. It represents expansion, wisdom, and generosity. People influenced by Jupiter are usually cheerful, optimistic, kind-hearted, and well-mannered.

Mars is the action-oriented planet of the zodiac. It stays in one zodiac sign for about 45 days. Both the Sun and Mars generate heat, but while the Sun’s energy is life-sustaining, Mars produces intense and explosive energy that can be both constructive and destructive. Mars is a strong, courageous, and confident planet. It is believed to be born from Earth, which is why it is also known as “Bhumi Putra” (son of the Earth). It governs energy, action, leadership, administration, independence, competition, courage, ambition, passion, determination, and success.

Mercury never moves more than 28 degrees away from the Sun. It takes about 88 days to complete one revolution around the Sun. Being the closest planet to the Sun, Mercury is quick, restless, and highly changeable in nature. It does not have a fixed gender and adapts the qualities of the zodiac sign it occupies. Mercury is often called the “messenger planet” because it governs communication, intelligence, and mental abilities. It influences writing skills, speech, communication, learning ability, logic, reasoning, understanding, awareness, and the way we express thoughts.
